Tetrabromoethane (C₂H₂Br₄) is a brominated organic solvent, colourless or yellow transparent liquid at room temperature, with a high refractive index, very high density, and sweet odour is similar to that of chloroform. The high density makes it ideal for separation of mineral ores by means of preferential flotation.
